My first architectural design project as I was getting out of school is this cozy 2 floor suburban home extension. The client was a family friend's relative who decided to give me his home's extension project. The project was an extremely practical project with little scope of creative design. The byelaws of the city as well as the neighborhood only allowed a particular form and material expression for home extensions. Studying in India, I had little experience with timber framing system, wall layering and details. This project enabled me to do a deep research to understand systems of construction of American Sub urban homes as i made the construction drawings. Sample drawings were searched, specifications and byelaws were read in order to deliver this project to the client. My scope was limited to making drawings fit for construction. The client hired a local contractor to execute the drawings to build the design. The first extension was a success and the client handed another extension project whose drawings were ready. The second project was not completed as the client decided to not move ahead and required excessive demolition with the hrisk to damage existing structure.
